McMaster's Wet Lab Training Club

WELCOME TO
UNISYNLABS

ABOUTUS

It is well known among STEM-major undergraduates that wet lab research is challenging to break into without prior experience. Proficiency in cell culturing, PCR, and gel electrophoresis are all necessary for competence in most undergraduate labs. Principal Investigators (PI) hesitate to spend the time, energy and resources necessary to train undergraduates when experienced graduate/upper year students are available. To further compound this problem, not all students in lab-oriented programs receive basic bench training early enough for them to be competitive in the search for laboratory jobs.

These difficulties are amplified by a growing demand for entry-level lab positions, which require skills that could only be gained through previous experience in an undergraduate wet lab. UniSYN Labs aims to solve this issue.

We are a one-of-a-kind initiative with a hands-on, mentorship-intensive approach to practical lab education. It is our mission to equip students with the skills, experience, confidence they need to pursue undergraduate research opportunities at McMaster University.
